The Copper Shop Copper Classes

There are new Copper Repousse and Metalsmith classes posted under Artisan Classes and events at the Roycroft Campus Corporation web site.  These workshops are usually 2 days and includes lunch at the Roycroft Inn.  Gift certificates for classes may be purchased at The Copper Shop.  

                                                             

The answer to last week's Elbert Hubbard Trivia Contest was:  Conrad Hilton.  The Fra is mentioned in Hilton's autobiography, "Be My Guest".  The entrants with the correct answer:  Susan Yackley, Gerry Hurdle, Kathryn Davis, Debbi Turk, and Jackie Evans.  Don't forget to look for February's "Who Am I?" next month.  All winners names will be entered in a quarterly drawing at the Copper Shop.

WIN WITH THE FRA -- NEW TRIVIA CONTEST!

Greetings from me, Elbert Hubbard! 

Now, I have been often described as a charismatic and clever man.  I have influenced many men and women by my international lectures and personal friendships.  In this new trivia contest you can guess whom has benefited from my forward thinking and  life experiences.  Let's see just how much you know about me!

Wordsmith Playing Word Games

Elbert Hubbard was fond of games and competitions. The Roycroft had its own baseball team which competed with town teams and sports were part of the daily routine during exercise breaks on the Campus lawn. 

But physical games weren’t the only ones he was interested in. Friendly competitions of Spelling Bees were also held at the Inn. This shouldn’t be too surprising, given Elbert’s occupation as a wordsmith. What I am curious about is whether he used his invented words in the competition. Those would in all likelihood flummox spellers expecting normal words. An example is “Locomotorcycleataxia” which I found in an advertisement he wrote for a motorcycle manufacturer. He derived the word from “Locomotor ataxia”. 

If you, like Elbert, enjoy Spelling Bees, there is a Senior Spelling Bee competition next week in Wyoming County, New York, for residents over the age of 60. Preliminary rounds will be held at 9:30 AM in the following school auditoriums throughout the county:
