Sugaring season is here. If you make maple syrup, you have been preparing the buckets and lids, spigots or tubing, boiling pan, cleaning the holding tank and chopping wood to get ready for the sap when it begins to run.
The Roycrofters were sugar makers. They used their maple syrup to make their specialty, Roycroft Pecan Patties, filling orders for them all over the country.
Over the next two weekends you can sample New York’s finest maple syrup during New York State Maple Weekends March 22-23 and 29-30 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily. The web site www.mapleweekend.com has a list of places where you can see the process of boiling maple sap to make maple syrup. It is a family friendly outing to the country so come enjoy the taste that says winter is almost over!
